Crystal began her art career in 2006 selling collage art online while teaching collage & mixed media workshops at art retreats and private studios nationwide. Today she is an established artist with gallery representation in 3 cities.

Her achievements include exhibiting her work in prestigious shows such as the American Craft Expo and SOFA Chicago. Her book, The Art of Expressive Collage; Techniques for creating with paper and glue was published in 2015. Crystal was the recipient of the 2018 RAM Artist Fellowship Award from the internationally recognized Racine Art Museum, which included a solo exhibit of her work.

Here's what students and readers are saying:

Robin LK.

"I recently discovered Ms. Neubauer's work in one of my art magazines and was immediately connected to her choice of colors, use of materials, lovely compositions, and text to explain her process. I stopped reading the mag to find her book, which I've just finished on my iPad/Kindle. Stunning. In reading her book and studying her work, I see more clarity in my own style as I continue to grow as a new mixed-media artist.

Highly recommend to those studying collage composition. I have several art books focused on abstract and on mixed media. This is now in my top 3 favorites! Will be buying the print version for my go-to library and How-To workshops."

Cherie D.

"I had previously thought that I just don’t get collage. Since taking this class, I’m realizing that my issue is more like what Crystal discussed: Freezing and not wanting to paste down the papers. My new word is 'What if?' so I could use it to ask 'What if I were to paste down the paper in question, even without a guarantee that I will like it afterwards?' I could do this!

 April L.

"Your workshops have completely transformed my art process & being able to tell MY STORY. Every artist needs to take a class from you!! You’re such an honest, generous & inspirational teacher."

"This is the most complete book on collage I've ever seen and it is extremely well presented and organized. Each chapter provides extensive information, including the presentation of many valuable and relevant techniques. The chapter on composition is one that I found especially helpful. Although it approaches the basic principles and elements of design most artists are familiar with, Ms. Neubauer takes these concepts one step further by using the actual collage pieces to provide shape, line, movement, etc. Every step in the process of creating a fine piece of collage art is presented in detail, including a section on using encaustic methods to create collage.

Though most of this brief review has been about the content of the book, I want to emphasize that it is the most inspiring of the collage books I've seen. And if I were to have only one collage book, this is definitely the book I would choose."

Mikki S.

"I've been an admirer of Crystal's work for quite a long time and had the pleasure of attending one of her workshops last year. I tend to use art books as reference and visual inspiration and it is not often that I read one like a novel. I read Crystal's book cover to cover and loved it. She shares her process generously and in great detail and writes about the art collage with joy and passion. I put the book down and headed to my studio."

Debi K.

"I just want you to know how powerful the sacred space you create, is. These are life lesson that have been in the dark for a long time. You give people a boast of courage, a safe space and facilitate growth.  These are rare moments of magic and I just wanted to let you know, I see you, and appreciate you."

Robin K.

"I'm reading the comments from your students as they do their 5-minute collage exercises and I'm reminded of how powerful you are as a teacher. All these years later, your voice still rings in my head when I'm making art. The is the true testimony of a remarkable teacher. Thank you for your generosity and talent."
