The Art of Physicality

Alternative Materials in Sculptural Designs

Physicality: The quality of being closely connected in some way to the body; intensely physical orientation: predominance of the physical

Excavation Exploration

Utilizing the ancient craft of Japanese Momigami and expanding it to create sculptural designs, this class is equal parts process and intuition. Illustrating through evocative materials, terrain which may at once be found on the land beneath one’s feet and that which covers the body.

A visual embodiment of the artist in abstract form.

Finding freedom in intuitive expression

Working with simple materials to develop the foundation of the work, I’ll guide participants through the process to create both, 2D relief style works and 3D sculptural forms

Techniques covered in this workshop include:

  • The traditional art of kneading paper known as momigami
  • experimental and sculptural manipulation of paper and fibers
  • light assemblage.
  • finishing techniques will be presented, including the use of Encaustic wax medium, while also presenting options that do not include the use of encaustic wax.

Each technique can be utilized on its own, to create a series of related works, or incorporated into a single work of art, with any combination the student desires.

THIS CLASS WILL BE UPDATED WITH A NEW SCHEDULE AND INFORMATION SOON. PLEASE CHECK BACK SOON.
