Shadows and Shrines is a project oriented course that takes a reflective approach to creating.
/SHrīn/
a place regarded as holy because of its associations with a divinity or a sacred person or relic, marked by a building or other construction.
shadow self
refers to parts of yourself—whether personality traits, emotions, thoughts—that are difficult to accept. The shadows self represents traits of yourself that you think are unpleasant, or parts of your personality you don't consciously recognize.
Without a need to force any particular narrative, we simply review these terms and reflect on the design of our work as we proceed through the lesson, allowing the work to prompt and stir us toward a deeper meaning.
Originally recorded live as a bonus lesson for the full course Pensieri: Little thoughts in paper, fabric, and string, and now available as a self-paced course, Shadows and Shrines is a project oriented course that takes a reflective approach to creating.
The course utilizes the traditional art of Momigami to cover a frame or support to create a strong foundation for our Shrine or Shadow artwork.
Shadow and light serve as elements in the design, which may also include stitching, collage, and assemblage.
Whether your style is whimsical kitsch, or contemporary clean and modern, or somewhere in between, you'll learn everything you need to create a work that reflects and connects you to the shadow and the light that we each carry within.
