Links provided are examples for your convenience if you need to order supplies. (No affiliate links are included in this supply list).
The supply list is divided into sections between what is needed for the first session and what is needed for the second session.
NOTE: The second session includes finishing your vessel with encaustic wax. While this step adds additional strength and beauty to the sculpture, it is an optional step.
Session 1:
- Small pack of Konjac gum/ glucomannan powder
- Natural White Long grain Kozo or Mulberry paper (plain paper only, no decorations or inclusions)
- 3"-4" hake style brush
- Small Whisk or gravy stirrer
- Silicone oven liner or heavy-duty large garbage bag
- Electric Burner (or your kitchen stovetop)
- Medium bowl – ceramic, glass, or stainless
- Liquid Measuring cup
- Tablespoon for measuring
- Small Pan
- Standard Balloons
- Sturdy wire in metal of choice--suggested 16 gauge wire
- Basic Wire cutters
- Helpful: Needle nose pliers, hammer, metal file
Options for session 1:
1-2 colors of acrylic fluid paint or India Ink (to be used to dye paper if desired)
Basics: Scissors, craft knife, ruler, disposable gloves, etc.
Session 2:
Basic Encaustic set up:
- Electric griddle
- Heat gun
- Encaustic wax medium
- Hake style brush for encaustic medium
- Paper Clay
- Jar of Slurry from paper clay (info for preparing will be given in session 1)
Options for session 2:
White or student choice of color pigmented medium-- Please have one additional brush per color
R&F Pigment sticks or oil paint color of choice
Coconut or vegetable oil
